He analyzes the nature of assets with his friend Critobulus and has an extensive conversation with Ischomachus about how to properly run an estate and whether knowledge of how to be a good estate-manager is innate or learned. Xenophon doesn’t always reflect the dizzying and mischievous Socratic dialogue that Plato depicts conversarions instead shows an intellect with definite aims in its discussions and that is more gentle on the reader trying to understand what moral idea is at the heart xenophin the story.
Plato was not the only one who wrote about Socrates. After the execution of Socrates in BC, a number of his followers wrote dialogues featuring him as the protagonist and, in so doing, transformed the great philosopher into a legendary figure.
It seems though that Xenophon’s portrayal is purposely polemical in regards to Plato. He was extremely fit and brave, fighting in three campaigns, the last aged 50, and honoured for his bravery in battle.
